About this event

What: Paddle in the Deception Pass tidal currents, working with back eddies, practice crossing eddy lines, ferrying across fast moving water and playing with some boils and whirlpools.
There will be basic instructions given on the maneuvers mentioned above depending on the group.

Who: Intermediate to advanced paddlers; you should have some experience in moderately fast-moving water and a good understanding of skills involved, like edging and bracing. Expect to capsize so you must have solid wet exit and self-rescue skills and know how to support a rescuer effectively in an assisted rescue.
Please contact me if you are unsure if this trip is right for you. We will soon offer an intro into currents class.
Schedule: Meet at Bowman Bay at 9:00 am.
Everyone should be geared up and ready to get on the water by 9:30.
Spend the next ca. 45 minutes discussing the plan for the day and do some skills practice in the bay.
Leaving the Bay around 10:15 to arrive at Canoe Pass around 10:35. The current will be running at around 2 knots then
Play the ebb till around 12:40, (max current ~4.8 knots).
Includes a lunch stop when the group decides to do so. Bring a warm lunch, a windbreaker and some warm beverage.
Sign up: Call, text or email Frank Sabatier. When you reach out, please provide emergency contact information.
