About this event
WAKE’s annual members daylong kayak skills clinic at Lake Padden is right around the corner!
9 am to 3 pm, 2-hour morning and afternoon on the water trainings will be offered, led by Gary Peniston and fellow club members.
As usual, we will be reviewing, or maybe learning for the first time, some basic paddle strokes and rescues. When a person goes in, rescuers need to be able to maneuver quickly to get to the scene. Once there, both swimmer and rescuer want to be automatic in their responses. Both want to be able to act without having to think. We’ll be practicing these important skills and there will be time to just fool around. It’s surprising how much you can learn when you’re having a good time.
It’s the same general setup at Lake Padden as in years past: parking in the west entrance lot and carry your kayaks down to the lake shore. There will be a shelter up over a picnic table where members can leave their lunches while out paddling. There will be a couple of coolers available keep cold items. Bring a chair if you like.
To participate you must be a WAKE member with paid dues and signed waiver. Pre-registration required via WAKE Club Express.
