About this event
Come paddle in Deception Pass on an ebb current. We will time our trip to arrive at the pass near slack water. You’ll be able to paddle in the building current until you reach your limit.
Deception Pass is both beautiful and a great training venue. You’ll have an opportunity to practice rescues before the pass. We’ll do some boat control practice along the way. Everything is challenge by choice. You can opt out of any activity.
Dress warm. Bring some additional warm clothing if you choose to wait on the beach a while.
Arrive in time for a 9:45 shore talk and 10:00am launch. Slack is 11:00am, max 1:50pm. Off the water by 2:30pm - 3:00pm (probably)
Who this is for: Participants should have some experience paddling in conditions. Perhaps you have been to the pass a few times and know what to do when crossing eddy lines. Perhaps you have paddled in wind and waves and feel confident you can figure out currents. Definitely you should be prepared to capsize and get rescued multiple times. We will give some instruction and some coaching, however, this is not an introduction to currents.
We need a good mix of experienced paddlers and new-to-the-pass paddlers. I’ve set the group limit fairly low. I’ll increase it as I see we have enough experienced paddlers to provide a safety net for the inexperienced paddlers.
Remember: I’m the initiator and you all are take equal responsibility for risk management and your own limits.
